Volunteer
As a not-for-profit resource for the entire community, we invite those interested to join us as volunteers. From administrative assistance, to fundraising and outreach, opportunities are available.
For those interested in bikkur holim, visiting the sick, once the volunteers have completed training, we match them to patients who have expressed an interest in receiving visitors. Our heritage teaches us that visiting the sick is a mitzvah. Just as the Holy one visited Abraham when he was recovering, so too are we commanded to visit the ill.
"But I'm afraid."
"I hate hospitals."
"I feel helpless."
"I never know what to say."
"It's depressing."
Our training for individuals helps those with the desire to be of service to overcome possible fears and resistance. Bikkur holim is an art, which when learned and practiced allays our fears and elevates this mitzvah to one of joy and fulfillment for both the giver and the receiver.
The Jewish Healing Center conducts periodic seminars in bikkur holim and advanced seminars for those interested in hospice work.
